Nosing through a classified site I found a lot of wanted ads for specific fish all from the same person, with a big of digging I have found its an aquatic shop asking for free fish to sell on!

Just a warning if you are looking to give away some fish in the Birmingham area watch out for the add. Not sure if I am allowed to put the name of the shop but as an easy hint to spot because if you want some free fish you "Beg aquatics".

I have to say I'm not surprised that someone has done that, you can get some absolute bargains on there and if people are in the business I guess it just makes sense.

I mean I missed a ton of bargains when I was looking for plecs I had all sorts within a 20 min drive radius for £10-£15 that would otherwise be £40-£60+ in stores, but I dragged my heels and lost out on them all. Now though if I see something I just bag it. Got quite a few good deals off there like my 2 pictus a good 3-4 inches on both of them £5 each.

Also I guess most LFS only take fish in for free especially big growing things like plecs etc that have been mis sold or outgrown tanks. Still bit bad to advertise if its rare fish, say like denison barbs if they take them for free then sell them at £20 per fish bit scrupulous IMO.

They are asking for arrowanna, stingray and any large or small fish! small dontation can be given! I am quite shocked a shop can get away with this!

what a shop getting away with stealing other peoples fish?

mine do it all the time

wow yeah that is harsh asking for Rays I think ive seen the ad you mean now do they stack them up in a list and spam all day? I never clicked them but just assumed it was a kid somewhere with no money

Yep must be the same add, what with them and the discus people my add is always at the bottom lol

Yeah I find it really annoying because you have to really search for anything else, and its a bit of a pointless advertising method for companies that spam - especially those that dont post because they are advertising to a really small audience that can reach the store in car etc.

Worst bit of the site is when you see a fish you desperately want but its like a four hour drive but your still tempted!!

theres a family shoal of denisons running for 17$ each my lfs, guess there getting cheaper

Watch your language please! This is a family forum. Changing letters to by-pass our swear filter is considered just as bad as using the word.

I know livebearers aren't worth much, but i begrudge giving them to lfs to make a 100% profit on them,i've only given one lot of juvi's to the lfs,but i try to sell them at a lot rate first.

I agree a shop should not be doing this but like any business it is after money and if it can get it's stock for little or no money to sell on then that's even better for them! If people are silly enough to give away there rare fish or really expensive fish for free or a few pounds then it's their fault! I guess the shop would only take advantage of this, personally I don't think they will be getting much stock in this way or if they do it will be cheap fish, fish that nobody would buy or sick fish that will not last long to sell, in any case still not a good way to go about running a business as if they can get the fish for free other people probably can too!

i think its horrible.

i have a plec i need to rehome, but shops say the'll him in "but give nothing for him" - what about a little store credit? make me wanna come back??

Haych if there is a Maidenhead Aquatics near you try seeing if they will take your plec cos the ones near me give money or credit for fish, apart from Silver Dollars for some reason they'll take them but only offer 1/3 of the value and as store credit...guess they don't really want them
