Can aquatic compost be used in a planted tack setup beneath a gravel substrate? the stuff normally sold for pond plants such as lillies etc.

i forgot to mention, ive allready planted my setup with gravel and wondering whether planting with this type of compost first was a good idea or not? of course i will have to battle with taking out the existing gravel and then getting the dirt in-i can image this will be messy :)

Potting soil made specifically for water plants would be a good idea. Be aware that after it is placed in your tank for a while and starts to work as an active soil component, it will smell really bad if you later disturb it because it tends to enter an anaerobic state. I have done this when using ordinary potting soil in an NPT arrangement and came to the conclusion that I need a good way to handle used potting soil when I decide to clean out a tank. To that end I have decided to use shallow plastic pans for future use of potting soil so that I can simply remove the soil, pan and all, when I decide to clean out a tank.
