Aquarium hood build

Hello everyone
I am in the process of building a new hood for my aquarium I have got all on the wood but completely forgot I need to seal it from moisture.
I dont have a clue what to use my plan is to have the inside painted white and the outside black just I dont know if I can just paint in or I need to seal it first then paint

If I were building a hood, I would probable construct it of plexiglass as it would stand up to moisture much better than painted wood which could peel. If I did use wood, I probably would stain it and then seal it with a few coats of marine grade clear sealant and let it dry for a few days before using it. Maybe a clear coat such as : this
