i have 2 of these tanks, one is currently housing an old betta who i don't expect to be with me for much longer, and 1 oto (once part of a trio, has been alone for about year now because i have no luck buying lone fish friends...whenever i buy a lone fish a few friends, the original dies in a week, and then i lose one of the new ones, and i'm back to having a lone one for a few months again and repeat GAH!).

anyway. i've had too many betta losses lately and i'm done with them breaking my wee heart! so what else can i do with a small, roughly 8 gallon, cube tank that's planted with gravel substrate and bogwood? open to suggestions, willing to redecorate and planning a 70litre in the future which could be a relocation destination for the oto if need be.

I think some shrimps do well in small tanks.

Or a dwarf puffer if you want to goa little more oddball....(maybe a dwarf...read on that some more if you're interested)

BUMP. my betta in this tank passed away last night. silly old bettas, they don't last long enough!

that's what this tank is, so the dimensions are a bit funky

any ideas for this tank? i've got a fluval 1 filter in it so it does have a bit of current in there. would a honey gourami work or is it too small?
the current occupant is a single oto now. (plus bogwood/slate decor, some hygrophilia polysperma and gravel substrate - oh and some damn cyanobacteria i can't sodding get rid of)

Get shrimp and a couple more oto's. You may get away with 6 Endlers . That's all you can really keep in it. How long has the tank been cycled?

A nice small and colorful fish that is surprisingly tough is an endler. If you get both males and females, you will need a place for all the fry after a little while but if you get just males, they are very colorful and you could easily have 8 or 10 in a tank that size.
BTW the fish in my avatar is an endler male. They come in quite a few different colors but mine is typical for a wild one.

honeythorn - the tank has been running almost 3 years, it's very very cycled!

i already have endlers in my other aquaone 320, i've been breeding them for 2 years. i've got red chests and green top swords at the moment.
