hi everyone thought i would see if this has happened to anyone else.My wife got up with our baby son early on sunday 29/04/12 came downstairs and smelt a burning plastic smell only to see flames coming out of the lighting hood on the aquarium, suffice is to say i shot downstairs like a fat kid on cake.On closer inspection one of the starter motors and casing had completely melted,i turned the power off to the unit straight away, left it for five minutes turned it back on and it caught fire again straight away.Well i decided not to do it again.Fish are all okay but they have no light for the time being until new unit arrives.Been in contact with manufactuer so we will see what happens, tank is only 3years old but it makes you thinks how lucky you"ve been that your baby son decided to get up very early that morning.

Omg, thank goodness your son woke you up.
Glad you're all ok, it could've been much worse
