hi I lowered the level of water in my tank and my apple snail has laid eggs. I dont want an infestation so if I do not lower the water level again will this prevent it? if so what happens to the eggs inside the snail?

Most apple snails will lay eggs if the water level is lower because they typically lay eggs above the waterline; so therefore when the water level is lower, this becomes a lot easier for them as their is space for them to lay eggs.. If your apple snail has laid eggs on the glass of your tank, you will want to remove the eggs quickly as they will harden really rapidly and be difficult to remove.

If you simply raise the tank's water level above the eggs, the eggs will drown. Apple snail eggs cannot survive being submerged at all. Although they must be kept moist to hatch out properly, any real coverage by water will drown them. The ideal, for a snail breeder, is to have the eggs under a tight lid so that humidity around the eggs is preserved while keeping the water below the eggs. With a high humidity but no actual moisture, the eggs will hatch in about 3 weeks or a bit less if they are fertile.

sorry I dont think I was clear im happy to have my first clutch of eggs even though they came about by accident but I am worried about over running my tank with more clutches so I was wondering what would happen if I dont lower the water again? I have seen my snails mating since the clutch was laid so I was worried what happens to the eggs that havent been laid if I dont lower the water?

If the snails must do so to find an appropriate laying location, they will crawl up into your hood to find a dry place. Some apple snails can be especially troublesome by going on travels around your home. They just don't realize that you expect them to stay in the tank.

hi they cant get into the hood because I have one of the MA solid oak tanks that has a solid glass lid will this be ok?

I have hatched to date maybe 1100+ apple snails, each clutch can contain 200+ eggs even though they dont look like it. if you dont want them scrape them of the tank within 3 days of finding pop them in a old tub and freeze the eggs for 2 days, you can then throw them out.
