Hi all,
Would it be okay to keep 1m and 3f in a 10gallon tank?
Or should i put them in my 20G (see sig) and remove the fry once free swimming?
Or leave them in the 20G then once i see eggs, move them and mother into the 10G till fry are free swimming then put mum back into the 20G?

I would really like to experience breeding these beautiful fish but dont want to risk them dying. Their pretty expensive hehe. And rare in my parts of australia.

Regards,
Indir

What kind of apistogramma? If you had ALOT of caves you could put them in the 10g. But they would eat the shrimp. Your 20g is over stocked, so I wouldn't put them in there.

Going to remove the Angel soon as i can find a good home.
Thought i said the type sorry.
They are the Cockatoo Dwarf Cichlids, therefore the Apistogramma Cacatuoides.

Indir

Any more? What you mean? Theres just them four that im buying tomorrow or monday. Im just htinking wether i can put them in the 10G to ensure no eggs are eating :)

So would they be okay in there or better of putting them in the 20G and moving mum and the eggs into the 10?

Indir

Your signature says you have 2 Bolivian Rams. They live in the same part of the tank as the cockatoo's do, the bottom. They will fight for territory, and you may lose fish.

Hmm i see. Well would 4 be ok in the 10G? 1m and 3f. Ill make a tower of flower pot caves for the back of the tank lol.

idk much about apistos..but i have kribs. and when i was trying to figure out the sexes i had two females, and they constantly fought and that was in a 30 gal...so if i were you, i'd wait till you got a bigger tank then try it.

why not just a male and a female?

They are 'harem' fish. Meaning they need more females to one male, like guppies do. Ive done some research and people do keep them in 10Gallons, i just want some advice :) Always good advice on this site.

If i get just one male and one female, she will be harrased by the male alot which will stress her out and probably kill her.

I would personaly get a trio, there for he wont harras just one female. Or the extra female will cause 1 fem and the male to pair up and they will team together to chase hre away.
Trio in the 10g with lots of rocks slate and pot for hiding places will be ok. Not had what your buying but i kept and breed apisogramma agassi also Apistogramma Borelli

I too think a trio would work better. But, if you kept up on big regular water changes, you could keep 4 in there. But, I would go with a trio.

Well im getting 6 juvis. At 3cm each. Just till i can sex them then ill get rid of the other 3 (got a friend waiting for them already, their hard to find in my area).

What size are they sexable? Guaranteed, So i dont end up with the wrong ratios hehe

A pair of Cockatoos would be fine in a 10G, also they should be fine in the 20G with the Bolivian Rams. Although please not that what works for one may not work for another.
