These blighters are eating me out of my house!!!.... My local angling shop around the corner are selling earthworms at R7 per hundred.....

Two feedings, and they devoured all of 'em.... They are peacefully swimming around in a tank with about 20 platies/mollies and a coupla half inch convicts, and just leaving them alone, but when I feed the worms, there is no end.... They get 2 "inbetween" feedings of pellets as well!!

Wow!!.... are Oscars like this???... I've only had them for a week.... They are about 12" long.

Oh yeah, Oscars will eat and eat and ...................

And then poop and poop and......you get the gist of this!!!

stop feeding them  as long as your giving it too them then they will keep eating it, i used to feed Jambo 4 times a day * poor baby was hungry* now he eats once a day,, sometimes 2ich if i feel sorry for him , the worst bit is at night im on the sofa and he sits on my side looking at me with puppy dog eyes saying " feed me, feed me" so i do, have been known to grill the odd fish finger for him too  .... well he`s a growing boy he needs his grub... but seriously as long as you give it they will eat it....so when do we get to see these beauts then Ludwig??

cant wait

shelagh xxxx

This afternoon again...... I've got this uncanny feeling that they'll just continue eating for as long as I'm feeding.....Unbelievable!!..... ONLY BECAUSE I GET TIRED OF FEEDING..... IS THE REASON WHY I STOP TO FEED... BUT THEY JUST CARRY ON AND ON.......

oscars are bad but they know when to stop<well mine do>
however my redtail tinfoil barbs never stop eating and its a frantic free for all

what fish are we talking about?

Oscar appetites are under discussion.....

what i ment was what fish do you have?
oh do you now have oscars? didny know this, now ive worked out the post

Ouch!!... My frozen bloodworms arrived today & I decided to feed em some of that.... took 8 blocks solid frozen and just chucked it in..... They swallowed it whole and was waiting for more.....

Surely this cannot be good.... I thought that maybe they'd have the savvy to wait until it defrosted.....

 get some prawns and poop those in, watch their eyes rolls back into their heads with glee :D

Don't overfeed your Oscar. They need a balanced diet of Veg and Animal matter but will eat anything. I head of one dreadful owner owner on another forum who tipped half a can of dogfood in the tank each day which the oscars yummed up but then she was suprised when they got sick!! .

You can get specialist pellets which will give them the nutrition they need. Worms, meat, fish and insects should be given only as part of a balanced diet.

Good luck, they are my absolute favorite fish.

OscarWilde ;)

P.S. I PROMISE you that your 20 platies/mollies will be eaten in time. Oscars don't make clean kills either and it won't be pretty so If you are attached to them I'd get them out quick.

Oops missed that bit, oh well, stop feeding them Ludwig that will clear up your livebearer problem

almost all animals, including humans, are oportunistic eaters... if an animal has a chance to eat, it will usually eat as much as it can as it doesn't know when it's next meal will be... so the fish will continue to eat until they are so uncomfortable that they can't eat anymore... so feed them only enough for what they will eat in less than 3-5 minutes... anything more and thats just overdoing what they need to live

Ox :good:

That comparative reference to humans is very true when it gets to drinking....(IMC) for as long as you provide Castle Lager, I will consume until I get so uncomfortable that I cannot drink anymore,.... & then have a couple more.......

My actual concern here was the swallowing of whole solid frozen (iced) blocks of bloodworms..... They're not coldblooded like reptiles.
