for the last week or so both of my Agassizii had been hiding and wernt comming out for food they hadnt spawned but they just staid in diffrent caves. but a few days ago the male started feeding again but has stopped again now. the female seems worse for the last 3 days she has hee in the top left corner of the tank next to the filter and is up right at the top of the tank and isnt eating or moving much she isnt moving her mouth atall but her gills are still going. so i put her in a breeding trap last night to see if i could get her to eat but she still wont and is still floating upright.what could it be the water is perfect and i did a big water change yesterday to see if that would help but no. im treating them with a anti internal bacteria med just to see if that helps but is there anything else i can do? this is really anoying they took agers to pair up ive never had any problems with them being ill and then a few months ago they paired up and spawned a few times but ate the eggs but now they go and get ill so i really dont want to loose them and have to go throught the pairing up thing again.

Oh my! I have only heard good things about your apisto since you have gotten them! I sure hope that they will turn out to be fine! But one thing that you might do to get them to eat would be to soak their food in garlic gel caps. I did this for my ram when I was scared about him having calamanus worms. What I did was this:

1. Pop the gel cap(s)
2. Put the liquid in a bottle cap
3. Put the food in the cap with the liquid
4. Mix up real well
5. Feed like normal

The garlic will entice the fish to eat because it tastes very good to them. It also helps weaken parasites. Good luck, mate!

yh ive had them for ove 6 months and never had a single problem with them. ill try that thatnks for the help :] i hope it works.

ok ill try it tomorrow i have tryed it with a betta before but he was to far gone for it to really help him.

the female refused to eat it and just left it. the male seems better today i havent given him and but he just ate a few bits of normal flakes and ive seen him twice today so hes doing better.

why has your name changed??

Glad to hear about the male.

My name changed because I didn't really like my old one. I joined this forum when I first got me betta. I also thought it kind of made me look like a newb. And plus, Bebobb is my screen name everywhere else.

the males s back to normal again and the female ate today and i swimming round more so i think she might pull through.

Oh that's a bummer. I was talking to some of my aquarium club memebers at the meeting yesterday, and they were talking about ways to lower the pH naturally and controably. They said that almond dried almond leaves, or dried oak leaves work great.

We have an apisto breeder in the club too, and he said that is what he does. And he gets fry ALL the time.

i have loads of wood in the tankthe ph is about 6.4 last time i checked to there fine in that. they eat them the first few times but they should learn not to after a while.

Oh. That is a good breeding pH. Yeah, that is common in New World cichlids. I hope you can make some bucks off they fry!
