I used one complete test kit for my 30L fishless cycle, had to buy another one for when i started the 120L, all except the PH tester as i was probably testing all the other twice as much !
It all depends how much you currently have i suppose, anything around the half bottle mark will easily see you until christmas, when a new kit would be a fantastic gift to ask for. Failing that have a look on Ebay, i've never paid more than £25 for a set and there is always the advantage of having one and not needing it, rather than needing one and not having it.


I did read, from someone on here at some point, that by using half of the recommended drops in half of the recommended amount of water in the test tube makes your test kits last twice as long.. but i have not tried this myself

Yeah I think on amazon there going for 20 squid.

I also read that topic on half doses but it was suggested using 2.5 mls instead of 5 mls may lead to a greater degree of error.

To be fair I've mainly used the ammonia testers, so may investigate a single test kit instead, as only now using nitrite and nitrate.

Indeed, what i have found is that once or twice i have had to but 1 or 2 single test kits (IE; just for Ammonia or NitrAte, same as you)..which were about £4.70, again on Ebay.
