I find the test easiest to read outdoors if you are having trouble matching the colours. I sometimes stand outside and hold the tube about an inch infront of the card.
To get accurate readings for the nitrate test you need to add 10 drops of solution 1, then shake bottle 2 vigorously for 30 secs, add the 10 drops and then shake the test tube for 1 min before leaving to stand for 5 mins. Alot of messing about and a sore arm
