Api Master Test Kit First Results - Bad?

i have so far only kept an eye on ph levels in an established tank,tonight i gave in and got a master test kit
these are my readings can anybody tell me if they are good enough or if i need to be doing more water changes

ph 8.0
ammonia, 0ppm - 0.25ppm (nearer 0ppm)
nitrite 0ppm
nitrate 40ppm

those results are fine, I doubt you have an ammonia reading if it's barely readable, API test kits aren't the most accurate anyway.

All readings are normal and fine.

how can you say that PH is too high without knowing the species kept?

so where u get ur info from is baffling me i have a 200 ltr tank with 8 guppies 8 tetra 7 halaqins 2 mollie 2 catfish a bristlenose cat fish and to snails and all my reading are at 0 ppm ph is at 7.5 tested by an api masters test kit

I get my information from published scientific journals with the evidence to back them up, I will search for the papers and paste a link when I get hold of them.
Fish also come from different parts of the world, and the PH will vary, also most locally bred stock kept in aquariums filled with tap water, with no other PH changing factors, will do fine, because they're been bred in those conditions, they will slowly adapt over generations of breeding.

The master test kit by api itself says nitrate is fine under 50/60ppm

Thats rubbish, nitrate levels of under 70-ish are perfectly acceptable, most people even have 20ppm in their tap water, i know i do

you are the only person i no that feels this ways
nitrate is good for plants
and nirate can stress fish but not at this level as said above they can tolerate much higher levels 40 is fine and if you do weekly changes of 20%ish then it wont get too high

edit i have 10ppm in my tap and my tank flickers currently do to cycling

u believe who u want all i no from experience is the nitrate are harmful and stressful to fish iv had my tank for 1 year all my levels are at 0 ppm and i have never had a fish die on me yet (touch wood) there are sooooo many people in here that have there own ideas and aggendas so u find your own that works for you and stick to it good luck

a year is not long many people on her have had fish alive for 5+ years
