Strange question, but my mom is getting frustrated with the moles digging around the house and wants to throw sulfur gas bombs down the mole holes. We have a basement plus the holes are very close to the house so the gas may get into the house ( eugh, gross enough for me, let alone worrying about the fishes). Anyways she warned me that she wanted to do this soon but I need to find out if I need to bag up my tanks or anything first.

Any input would be great.

As long as the doors and windows on the house are closed and the not to much gas is used it would be ok but if too much gas got into the tank i'm fairly sure it wouldn't do the fish any good. hope this helps.

it should be OK, if i remember rightly, Seachem Prime contains sulpher dioxide, it dechlorinates water.

sulphur dioxide has been known to lower Ph in bodies of water, so I'd keep my eye on that in your tank.

sulphur dioxide has chemical different properties to sulphur and it will be in tiny quantities in Seachem Prime. if it is enough to kill moles then you wouldn't want it in your fish tank!

If you're petrified just duct tape a bit plastic bag around the tank haha :shout: , will have a large volume of oxygen in the bag :p

If not just seal the room... towels under the door etc. If it is likely to leak into your house... won't you want to be leaving the house for a while?

how many moles do you keep in your fish tank?

i see your point, but if something can kill a mole (which is probably larger than a fish) then it will kill a fish also. but if the sulphur is being used outside then not too much should get in the tank and the fish should be ok.

the thing is that they don't just put sulphur rocks into the ground, they will burn it which in turn produces sulphur dioxide, which in turn will gas off, and probably will do absolutly nothing to a fish tank.

i know there is only a small change gas could get into the tank but why take the risk?

I think I'll throw some garbage bags and tape over the tanks and call it good. Rather be safe than sorry

if the sulphur dioxide reaches the water, then it'll turn into sulphuric acid but in low concentration... it's probably not healthy for the fish, so i'd secure air around your tank in any way possible to be on the safe side
