when I was in my teens my friend's dad had a deer skull as a center piece decoration in a 29 Gal tank. I doubt they ever checked the PH as they weren't hobbyists, the tank was just a decoration (but with fish in it). I don't remember them having fish issues but the skull was in the tank for several years that I know of.

Now I'm not saying it's safe, just saying I've seen it...

I like the castle.. I'd add some really tall fake plants behind it, cool colors such as the ice blue plants or the milky white ones.. Slowly bring the height of the plants down as they approach the front of the tank, kind of like stadium seating. I'd keep tall plants and rocks all around the castle though.

Ok, Here is my tank now:

What do you think?

Think I should get a differnt type of bulb?

I've decided on some tropical root thing that was in pets at home- looks nice

I've got 2 of them (Mango roots, they're called I think), they look really cool and make a nice contrast with the rocks etc. I wouldn't buy any fish from Pets at home but I must admit, they have a good selection of ornaments etc.

Johnnyr - I really like the new look, much better IMO, nicely done

Me neither. But I wanted a fairly natural and cheap look. I think that would look quite cool with lots of plants and a moonlight effect.

Now the question is...what to populate it with. I was thinking a few oscars, maybe some cory cats...a few hermit crabs...what do you think? j/k

Really, I was thinking maybe some congo tetras...maybe a 3-6" kissing gourami...
and some other things..any suggestions?and about the tannis...the wood DID turn my water all greenish yellow...what should I do? Wait a few days and do a 100%water change? Or do I need to take the wood out and wash it? (Please tell me I don't need to do that, its all situated)

Thanks

WELL DONE JOHNNY!!! that looks fantabulous.

get emperor tetras! a school of 5-6. <--love them.

its generally not recommended to do a water change of more than 50% at a time. probably a big water change once or twice a week would help, but i wouldn't bother if you already have fish... big water changes really destabilize fish. there are also various inserts that could go into your filter; maybe one of those could help with the tannins?

otherwise, i'd just try and get fish that look ok if they're a little extra green.

Sorry, but DAMN....

That looks awesome! It's amazing it's the same tank...

Yeah, looks much cooler :)

edit: just a few more plants at the back and a background and you'll be all set ;)

Yeah, I don't have any fish in there yet...I'm thinking a large Gourami or Cichclid (peaceful one) with some congo tetras, tiger barbs...

Any other ideas?

Hmmm....not really anything specific...I want everyone to get along, thats about it.

Then I'd say gouramis.... What types do you like? LOL, I'm probably annoying you now, but theres so many different types. Go to theLFS and see what you like. Unless you want something like a RBP, they'll probably get on.
