Well I reckon I have all sorts of different algae and sludge in my tank!

I have messed with the lights.....on more....off more.......etc

Water stats are spot on although the nitrAtes are at 40 'cos that's how our tap water is

Water change and gravel vac once every 6 days.

So I am giving this stuff a try

eSHa PROTALON-707. Anti Algae Treatment.

It's a 7 day treatment and turns the water green

Anyone used this with success?

Get some decent photos up so some of the guys can ID what you have then figure a treatment.

Put it in the planted tank part of the forum and I am sure you will get some help.

The stuff on the leaves looks like brown algae. Most algae eaters will eat it. SAEs and otos love it. Unlike most algae which is boosted by too much light, the remedy for brown algae is usually more light. I'm not really sure about the stuff on the rock (last photo). It could be the same thing though.

I have the same problem. I have contained it allitle but its not gone. I turn the light on for 2 hours in the morn. and about 3 hrs at night. other than that the lights are off. I just wish I could get rid of all of it.

If it's brown algae,, you probably need to try burning the lights 10 to 12 hours a day and that should get rid of it.

Hi and thank you all for you input :good:

I will continue with the course of afore mentioned treatment.

I am going on holiday at the end of next week for 2 weeks so I will resist the temptation of getting any new, algae eating stock before I go.

I will lenghthen lighting time for this week and next too.

After a big water change my tanks will have to look after themselves for a couple of weeks (fish will be fed but that's all) so I am not expecting them to be pretty on my return

Thanks again all :good:

If you have someone feed them very lightly, you may return to find the tanks looking great with all the algae gone. Some fish will scavenge for anything they can find when food is scarce and will even eat some types of algae.
