Hi, I noticed today one of my anubias looked odd

The rizhome has gone yellow on the end as you can see. The plant seems healthy in all other respects and this isn't something I've come across before. I'm useless with plants and so I thought I'd ask here for advice. Is this something I need to act on? Is it going to kill the whole plant? Can I just cut the end off or will it go back to green?

I admit that I keep forgetting to add verts and the easycarbo and I used to be really good at remembering to add daily! What can I say - life becomes hectic sometimes and things get forgotten!

Any advice would be great

Thanks in advance

I forgot to say - the white dots are eggs from my nerite snails ... the tank is covered in them!

When mine did that, I cut the bad part of the rhizome off and it was fine. I dunno if that was a good choice or not, so I'm just throwing that out there

yeah, the temptation is to just cut it off but I wanted to check first before I do it. I don't want to kill it completely!

I've not observed that with my Anubias.  From the photo is seems to be the "dead" end, by which I mean the end from which the rhizome is growing with the growing end opposite?

Byron.

No, aquatic plant expert, but in terrestrial plants not a good sign.
I agree though as with most rizhome plants, chop off the yellowing part and the rest should be fine.

it is the end that the plant is growing from yes. If I cut off all the yellow I will be cutting off one stem of leaves aswell - it doesn't matter I could just tie it back on and see of it survives but it's annoying!

The general consensus is then to just cut off the yellow bit? Have I understood that correct? (I'm not fully awake yet

Sounds about right. Would assume the yellowing bit is dying off.

Agree (with cutting it off).  Might be interesting to observe if it is increasing?

I hope it doesn't spread :( I know I can just buy another anubias if it spreads and dies but that's not the point. It's the hassle of getting some more and tying it to the wood. I've seen the rizhome of another of my anubias has darkened and it's been like that ages with no effect on the plant - it still sends a new leaf every 4-6 weeks. I've never seen one turn yellow before

well I've cut it off! I now have a stem of anubias floating around the tank in the flow! I have a place for it later though

My condolences, I know how frustrating that is. Always seems to happen right after a water change.
I only have one Anubius attached to driftwood, the others are wedged in stones. Fortunately they are not in tanks with Corys. Although I had one cutting from a Nana that decided to float around for two weeks. If I had hair, I would have pulled it out.

well I have a very large and tall anubias that my angels like to lay eggs on. I keep looking at it and thinking it needs something around the base as it's so tall growing that it looks bare. I've decided this piece that's floating around can be tied lightly to the base to solve the problem :D

Not something I've come across either with any of my anubia plants.

lets hope that taking off that end of the pant where its turned yellow does the trick

Doubt if its lack of ferts or anything like that as these plants are usually very easy to look after, without ferts just means it will grow slower is all.

As long as it keeps giving a new leaf every so often and stays a lovely shade of green, you're good I reckon :)

I'll keep an eye on it and make sure it is sending new leaves - because it's a smaller anubias version I tend not to notice new leaves unless I specifically look!

New leaf growth, on mine anyway, are like once or twice a month or so, so its hard to see new growth unless you happen to notice them

I keep, anubias barteri, nana and heterophylla, all these give a new leaf once in a while, though I have never seen them flower!

Don't worry too much about watching out for new leaf growths, just keep an eye on the plant staying nice and green :)
