Would yo be happy to put a 125 L tank ALONG the joists of an upstairs bedroom rather than across them?

It would look so much better along that wall :(

how far apart are your joists if there the regular 400 and your tank is 400 wide aswell it should be fine but if you are that worried that much put some noggens inbetween them.

If it is a Rio125, which has ~40cm of depth front to back, you might find the base unit will sit on two joists anyway.

If it does not span two joists naturally, perhaps buy a solid piece of MDF or alike to put under the base and help spread the load between two joists.

If a single joist in your house cannot support the weight of a 125l tank and stand, it's not fit for human habitation. The total weight is probably about the weight of two averagely sized people.

^^^^^^^^ each joist should be capable of atleast a ton of weight if not more (dads a builder) I have my 250l running along one joist

Ah thanks guys.

NOTG - no it's the Fluval Roma 125. Just ordered it today. Very exciting :)

Permenant mass is very different to temporary mass, but a 125 should be fine, just stick a piece of plywood underneath it so it spans 2 joists.

Ha ha quite true!

"The total weight is probably about the weight of two averagely sized people." and about a quarter the weight of just one of my wife's many wardrobes!!!

I have a feeling my dad put wooded boards on top of the floor boards under the carpets anyway. That's good then is it?
