Another Fluval Edge Topic :)

hey all,
i have found a really cheap fluval edge on gumtree for $100 it is the 23 litre one. my mum has been wanting a betta for a while and was wondering if this was any good? i have looked through a few topics about it on here but have found mixed opinions i REALLY like the look of it

Personally I don't think they're that great. Some people on here say you shouldn't keep bettas in fluval edges because they need to be able to get to the surface to breath, which is going to be a problem with the edges small surface area, but then again other people report success in keeping a betta in one. I wouldn't chance it though.

what if i didn't fill it up quite as much ?? would that help a little?

There was one on the forum for sales section the other day where the top glass had been removed... I'f you planted small plants left and right that would break surface it would create a nice visual effect, and allow the Betta (its a laberynthe fish - so needs to get at air) to breathe without allowing much space to jump? - So if you got one and removed the top glass it would make for a better tank!

In fact I'm tempted now... ;p

Leave a 1/2 cm gap at the top would work I suppose.

oh..... what would be abble to go in there otherwise, i was hoping the Betta would be alright if i left a gap at the top for air

The only prob with the air gap is air circulation, it's pretty limited, it'll just end up getting coated in algae all the time (and as you can imagine by the design its awkward to clean!!

I have seen endlers, shrimp, micro rasboras etc. housed in them.

I think cherry shrimp are the best option.

I don't know much about plants so I'll leave that for someone else, although I would suggest some floating plants for your betta to hide underneath .

i don't know anything about plants either my LFS's don't stock very many different plants so not sure of any good floating plants
