My mother in law ... I've ranted about her on here before .... one day she's gonna stumble across this forum and kill me but for now I'll rant

She had a tank that she SAID was a 10 gallon. It was, however, a 5 gallon. The ill fated occupants of this tank have been injected dyed glass fish in hot pink and purple (OMG she actually thought this was natural) countless tetras, an "algae eater" (common pleco I think) that she didnt know she actually had to feed so it died, a yellow lab that killed everything so she dumped it into a 1 gallon by itself, 2 silver dollars and god know what else. Following the death of the lab she put a betta in that tank that didnt live very long. The sole survivors of this situation were the SD's that I now have in my 55 gal. I'd like to actually rehome them to a 75 or 125 in the next year. The 5 gal in question is now my hospital tank. :grr:

We really need to convince humane socities to consider fish as "real" pets and not some magically animated toy. Maybe then they will be able to prosecute people for neglecting fish the way they would be prosecuted for neglecting and abusing cats and dogs.
I couldnt agree more. If i do have my facts straight, the UK has just passed a bill stating that it is illegal for goldfish or other fish to be given as a prize at fares and showgrounds. One small step!

When i was 15 i tried to tell a 40 year old family friend that keeping neons in a 5 litre bowl without filtration or heating would lead to the premature deaths of her neons but NO, what would i know! And now, after dozens of the poor little fellas, she has tried two gold fish! Grrr

Lol yes, I hate the, you're only 13 (or whatever), what do you know about fish? Grr... just because I go on here all the time and have tried to tell people not everything they think is true, they go, Oh yes, Hannah's an expert, don't you know. And they've even said that I shouldn't believe everything I read, ie. All yuo people who have kept goldies for years and know that you must keep them in a 10 gallon tank are STUPID and dad, who used to keep goldfish in unfiltered bowls without even dechlorinating the tap water is right. :grr:

got a story last year dad gave away some of our baby goldfish that were born in our pond. And of course they were going to live in a bowl so when i found out i went balistic at everyone. He knew they weren't going to live. I told him he had sentenced them to death. Never forgiven him and the idiots that wanted them. Aw I'm annoyed now....

x Fish x, I'm in Ontario, and if you want to pm me the details, I'd be HAPPY to let the authorities know - and your mum needn't ever know it was you that ratted. :D

Well! I've gotten the numbers for the fishies that I rescued. One painted Glassfish, three dyed White Phantoms, three Neons and two Algae Eaters. I'm actually thinking of getting three more Neons and adding them all to my Betta community, and getting a brand new 20g to house a few more White/Black Phantoms. Hey, a tank can rest on the floor, right? (With insulation under it, of course)

As for the dog- his name's Buddy, by the way- I don't think our local authorities care, anyway. They've had around seven dogs, each one has been brought back to the SPCA or killed on the highway, including the sweetest little Border Collie with arthritis. They never tie their dogs- 'cause it's so cruel, you know, to tie a dog when you live by a dangerous highway, near a school, several farms with guard dogs and a creek that grows dangerously large in the spring and fall.

I haven't even got the SPCA number, or the phone book (it's gone! -wail-) but if you're still up for the reporting whenever I can get it and her address, Purple Drazi, I'll PM you about it. Buddy doesn't deserve that sort of treatment.

A tank *can* rest on the floor, but you cant then siphon water out of it which will make water changes tricky.
