Angels grow pretty fast as well.  Small angels won't eat other fish simply bc they won't fit into their mouth. Even if you start with smaller angels, and they grow faster than the rummy's, I still think it will make a much bigger difference starting them off young together, where they're not viewing the rummy's as prey. Whereas, you put a full grown pair of angels in with rummy's, they will always look at them at prey, even if the rummy's are too big to eat.

Most people like to start off with 6 angels to give them a better chance of getting a pair. I started with one and added three small ones, and one paired with my big one, so you can still do it with 4. Plus, 6 angels is a lot lol.

I hope this all made sense, I'm still on my first cup of coffee

ok but if i got a single angelfish instead of a pair than would i have to worry about as much as fish death?

Predation won't change much with numbers.

I agree with greenmumma: put the rummynoses in, wait a month or so, add baby angels. that should significantly lower the risk of predation.
As I said, rummynoses are significantly larger than neons, just that will reduce predation.
Feed your fish well and they won't be so keen to hunt the tetras, they'll just have to wait for the next meal
Have juvenile angels grow with the tetras. They will be used to have them around and won't be thinking "yummy!"

This won't nullify the risk, but if you do have some predation you will be one of the unlucky few.

ok good to know rummies are just so uncommon i have to order them and shipping is horendous so i dont want them to die.

They've been a pain in the butt for me to get a hold of as well.
When having fish shipped it's recommended to drip acclimate right?
Even with them being a little bit harder to find than some other fish, they are worth it. Absolutely beautiful, in my opinion anyways. :)

yea me too not sure about the drip thing as i thought that was for saltwater fishes?

It's for any fish I believe.
I'm going to be getting some rummynose tetras from a friend next week and because they're coming from somewhere with different water than mine it's best to drip acclimate them, will be doing that for half a day.

oh ok well i usally float acclimate but drip sounds like a better way to go so might as well do that then.

How weird... In London I can get as many rummynoses as i want, literally. I never considered they might be difficult to obtain... Where do you live?

in the us north carolina specifically never seen em before really.

The major chains in the US don't sell them, you'd have to find a smaller business that has them or will order for their patients.

yea but i usally go to LFS to get them and they havent even heard of them! thats why i ordering it from live aquaria

<scratches head>
I wonder what fishes are easily available in the US that we can't get over here...

probably none  , it's not that popular of a hobby as it used to be here.
