I got a pair of angel fish on saturday and they have just layed eggs, the ph is 8-8.5(im suprised).
Anyway i have a fluval 2 filter next to a sponge filter. they have layed on the sponge filter tube.

the problem is will corydoras eat young??
and the main one is that fry will get sucked in to fluval 2 , so should i put tights over filter and will this just disturb them too much and then they eat young??????

this is the first time they have bred

what should i do???

thanks

Hi,

First of all, if if the first time they've bred, you probably won't get any fry anyway. It usually takes them a few tries to get it right.

Secondly, you may not even have a pair. They are almost impossible to sex other than when breeding. Are you sure you have a male?

In answer to your question, corys will eat fry. My corys quite often liked to hoover up some molly fry, and yes they could get sucked up into your filter.

You'll probably have plenty time to remedy these problems as they probably won't be successful on their first attempt.

yes they are definately a pair i bought them from a private breeder who is very experienced in tropical fish and looking at them tonight when breeding looking a t tubes its defiantely a pair!
thanks

any other tips or advice???

Yes, the eggs can be quite prone to fungal growth, so an anti-fungal remedy on stand-by wouldn't hurt. I've never used them myself. Maybe Tolak could advise you? Give him a PM, i'm sure he won't mind.

Also, watch for fighting. Angels are notorious for fighting amongst themselves and especially at breeding time. I believe they will fight with each other to test how strong each other are and hence how suitable their mate is.
