an idea that might not work

The only down side I see is if your have the tank lights too bright and the reflective light off the white sand. I have had snow blindness from the sun reflecting off the snow. It does not feel good and long exposure can cause temporary blindness. Your eyes feel like you have sand in them or like you were scratch in the eyes. Not sure what affect it would have on fish.

I would not suggest white sand or gravel.

As some have said above, it can hurt your fishes eyes and stress them out. There are plenty of other options you have. Christmas moss on small driftwood clumps to look like Christmas trees, and Christmas village back ground, Christmas lights around the tank, etc.

It sounds like a cool project. (Though its not Christmas time, lol) :fish:

My bad, mistake...

I still wouldn't recommend any white colored substrate. It really stresses fish out. Even an all white background could hurt their eyes. Maybe get a different season in mind? Maybe fall...?

would it still hurt blind cave tetras eyes?
