hi people :hyper:

iv had my tank set up for over 2 months i have a 90 ltr tank with 3 mollies 4 guppies one cat fish and 4 neon tentra im doing regular 25% water changes but my levels are not normal can some one give me the best advise to bring these down please they are as follows

ph 7.0
ammonia 0
nitrate 10
nitrite 1.0

whats the best way to eliminate this problem please

thanks

Do several large waterchanges to bring the NitrIte level down to 0.25 ppm.
NitrAtes of 10 is fine. Most people aim for the lowest possible, but it's not unusual to get 20 ppm straight from the tap.

Do you know if your tank has finished cycling yet? Sometimes the tank can go through small "mini-cycles" early on, which is why it's good to keep monitoring those Ammonia/Nitrite levels, and do a partial water change any time it's needed to keep those levels in check. Eventually it should remain stable.

Agree with AP. Larger water changes with good technique are the first order of business. Second, I'd review the type of filter and the media in it to make sure there aren't any problems providing the bacteria with a good home! The members can help you with that, they're great! Thirdly, let us know your test kit type. The numbers need to come from a liquid-reagent based test kit.

hi im currently doing about 50% water changes every 3 days and testing the water with an api master testing kit which i believe is used by most fish suppliers i think it might be my filter it came with the tank but i dont want to change this otherwise i will have to start again and the water changes aint making that much of a difference in my results

i did a 50% water change last nite and i will do another tonight i will test the water before i do it then once i have done it i leave for about 1-2 hours then retest it again is this going to stress the fish with all these water changes

Not as much as nitrites of 1 will! When you say water changes aren't making that much difference, do you mean nitrites test 1ppm, you do a 50% change and they're still 1ppm?
If so, I wonder if they might be off the scale? The 5ppm and 1ppm on the API kit do look very similar. Do the drops turn purple as soon as they hit the bottom of the tube?
In any case you need to keep doing 50% changes every few hours until the nitrite is 0.25 or less :good:
