Hello,

I just got my first tank (29 gallon) and am trying to cycle it with a pair of blue gouramis. I got everything set up and filled yesterday, and I've been checking the water fairly consistently. I got a book that has been pretty informative so far, but I did have one question about the cycling process. In the book, it says to change 30-50% of the water if the ammonia levels are "above an acceptable level", but never actually says what that acceptable level is, i guess probably because it might vary from fish to fish. I plan on trying to keep up with water changes pretty consistently for the first week or two, but could anyone tell me at what level of ammonia I should start worrying if I see it?

Thanks,

RO

With fish in cycles you want to keep the ammonia under 0.25ppm at all times.
