Hello,
I did a 40% water change yesterday because of nitrite levels, and the next readings a few hours later were down to 0. This morning ammonia was close to 0.50 ppm (colour card estimation, using an API test kit) so I did another water change (15% this time) and now it's 0.25 ppm. Should I do another water change or would it increase stress too much? What do you recommend?

I currently have three harlequin rasboras in a 50 litre tank, and nitrite levels have been 0 since yesterday's water change.

Thanks

what kind of water conditioner are you using? some of them detoxify ammonia so your g.b. can remove them later so you will still have a amonia reading.

We are currently using "Interpet TapSafe" - http://www.seapets.co.uk/products/interpet...ctive-30ml.html

Would that cause an ammonia reading to be present?

well the product doens't say if it does anything for ammonia, so I would look into a differnt type of conditioner that will. Now you did'nt say how big your tank is ,the type and amount of fish you have, the type of filtration you are using, or how long your tank has been running. These all play a big role in ammonia build up in your tank.

I'm using this product and even after large water changes (90%+) I'm still getting readings for niyrte and ammonia!!....could it be the tapsafe?

thnx for any help,

Nikki :)

ok like I said before tapsafe does not remove ammonia and it does not remove nitrite or nitrate it does remove chlorine and apparently boasts that it is a bio seeder, you need to use a different conditioner, look into a company called seachem they make different types of conditioners that will give you the results that I think you are looking for.

are you sure someones not dead in the tank? check the plants and make sure there arent rotting bits attached or floating around or on the substrate. all you can do is keep doing water changes and clean the substrate with a syphon. cut down on feeding to a little bit, every other day for a few weeks. that should help.
all the best.
