Thanks guys!

I have 4 amazon swords under .8 WPG with a Co2 and there doing pretty well.

Although I'm interested in knowing, maybe now for both with and without Co2?

Cheers!

I have 4 as well, at .7 WPG without Co2, and they seem to be doing okay, I was just wondering.

How long have you add yours, and do you dose any ferts?

preferable or minimum?
Preferable would be around 2wpg so light is a non-limiting factor. However CO2 and nutrients also need to be non-limiting in order for optimum results

Okay, I guess bare minimum.

Safely though, so that the plant is still able to gorw.

my swords have no co2 and just root tabs and their takeing over the tank lol not sure on my wpg but it must be low with only one grow lux tube at the mo for lighting
hope that helps although they do grow slower their still strong growers
regards scot :)

your in good hands with aaronnoth though m8 hes a font of knoweledge :)

hey trent, everything ok?

in my experience Amazon swords are heavy root feeders so even with this low light if you supply a source of co2 (excel or easy carbo is fine) along with root tabs then they should grow nicely. As above Aaron knows his stuff so i would follow any advice he gives you and competely ignore mine  just wanted to say hi really, i hope the footys going well.

well i guess 0.7wpg is fine, i wouldnt go any lower. Growth at this level will be extremely slow so it may take a while for its emerged leaves to die off and to produce new submerged leaves. So for the first few months it may seem as though it is just dying, when in fact it is changing state.
Whenever i go fr the lowest lighting, i like to use 1.5wpg.
You can then get a good range of plants, with weekly ferilisation, but no CO2.

root tabs might be a good idea, just to keep nutrients ticking over.

That is exactly what some of the sword plants are doing, some leaves seem like they are dying a little, (leaves turning a lighter green).

Well, I just picked up my 55 gallon, and I am making the stand and hood for that. That is what I am aiming for in lights, 1.5 WPG for the 55, that way I won't have to mess with Co2, or maybe a little to raise it to like 15 ppm or something. It would be something to experiment with after I get everything going. IDK.

What K rating should I get, something around 6,000-11,000K?

Also, would those stick fertilizers that you stick in the roots of the plants be a good thing to use.

I am just a little worried though, when I move the plants over to the 55, do you think they will die, or have to "re-adapt?"

Hey man, everything's going good!

I am going to help coach my old soccer team this summer, help the new goalie out, and then I will be trying out for goalie here at the University next season!

i'm glad to hear your getting back into it man, good luck on both accounts aye  you'l have to post some pics once you've got your tank set up :good:

yes,

If you are starting from scratch then i would use a nutritious substrate, you will have far less problems in the long run. It can be something cheap such as akadame (£18 for 14L posted in UK)
or something such as JBL aqubasis+ and cap it with sand or gravel.

Sometimes it knocks them back, and growth slows but they shouldnt die. If any will then it shal be the cryptocoryne sp.

Okay, thank!

I will see about the nutritious substrate, and try to get some for sure.

I will post back once I get everything going!

I won't be probably until a month though, lack of funds, but it will happen!

Thanks again for the replies, and nice talking to you jonnyf84! Haven't seen you around in a while!

I've got 2 amazon swords in my tank(was 1 but i split it) and its growing like wildfire.

Not too sure on my WPG but i got 80-120W in my 200l tank... i use ferts once a week

Nice.

Yeah, I think it is just because my light is a little low, and the swords are not that close to the surface. So the light has to traverse through the water column a lot to get to the plants.

This should change once I get my 55 gallon going, I am going to be setting up a custom light setup.

Also, if I get JBL aquabasis, do I have to put sand or gravel over the top of it? Or can I just use this as my substrate?

What about Eco-Complete™ Planted Red, is this a good plant substrate!

Thanks again guys!
