Hi

My planted tank has been running for 2 months. I have a variety of plants including Amazon Sword.
This plant is slowly getting covered by a black hair like algae which is almost impossible to remove.
It started on a couple of leaves and is now spreading.
I have other plants which are unaffected.
I have algae eating fish and they nibble at it but it doesn't seem to do any good.

Apart from this the fish are doing well.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

picture of the plant with algae?

if it's black beard algae it is a pain in the azz to get rid of.

that's a good idea unfortunately I have cut the affected leaves off.
If it comes back, I will take a photo.

Hi
it has been a while as the black algae has returned to the Amazon Sword.
I have a 240L tank and the swords are at the back of the tank.
There are only a few leaves that are affected but I guess it will spread.
I hope the photo will help solve the problem
Thanks

What light do you have, what is the kelvin output? 5000-6500k is good for plants.
Which fertilisers do you use and how much?
How are the nitrates?

Maybe remove the effected leaves (use clean scissors) and reduce the light duration by an hour or two. It is tricky to find the balance but if it doesn't start to return in a couple of weeks then maintain that light / nutrients routine.

The algae in the photo is black brush, one of the types of this general algae. It will not be eaten by any "algae" eating fish [one exception, but it is too large for here] so you need o get it under control. It is caused by an imbalance of light/nutrients, and you deal with it by restoring/establishing the balance so the algae does not increase. I have battled this alge for years, on and off; I got the balance settled about four years ago and it has not returned in any of my tanks.

Light data as Naughts asked for will help. And the fertilizers.
