I feed my juvy tiger oscar tetra cichlid sticks xl, hes about 4 inches long.
He gets pellets everyday except wednesday, friday and sunday where he gets blood worm and peas.
Is this okay?
Also my lfs said not to give cichlids blood worm as they dont digest it properly, is this true?

What you are feeding is good. Skip one day a week imo. Blood worms are fine for most cichlids, just not Malawi Mbuna, to much protein causes Malawi bloat.

Alright, will skip sunday.
Thanks

I heard about feeding them catfood, is this a good idea or not?

Never heard of feeding catfood.
I'm sure it would be extremely messy and even if the oscar did like it half of it would be scattered around the tank.

dont bother with cat food it wont do your water stats anygood and probably not your oscar either.

try him on sinking and floating dry foods to vary his meal times and if he will take frozen stuff then try prawn, mussel, cockle, krill, shrimps etc etc to vary his diet a bit more.

my oscar had a different meal everynight more or less. the more different things you give him the less chance there is of him getting stuck on one food type and rejecting the others. best to get them eating as varied a diet as poss while they are still young.

Thanks, he eats anything I put in there except frozen bloodworm :S , and hes growing at an astounding rate!
Around 5 inches now.

You were right, my oscar now wont eat anything, he refuses pellets now and will only take meaty things, my lfs recommended I put in a small pinch of raw cooked chicken breast in, and he devoured it in seconds, Ive only done this once, which is today.
He wont eat any dried type foods, or frozen.
What should I do?

i wouldnt feed chicken again if i were you....

as onidrase said dont feed the O for a few days it will do it no harm then try dry foods again. it will give in eventualy when its hungry :good:

any foods that a fish would not eat in the wild may be very difficult to digest and may cause harm or damage to the fish. there is no need to feed things like chicken to fish when there are numerous fish food products available that are manufactured for fish digestion and health.

find a staple dry food that the fish enjoys and then treat it to different meaty foods a few times a week. as i said before vary the foods so they dont get too use to the same thing and to give more variation in the diet.
