So, I was once of the habit of saving all of the precious offspring that my fishies produced. Now I'm of the 'survival of the fittest' mentality. However, I don't think it is fair that they should have to try their luck against the big, bad filter monster. In truth, this is mostly do to the fact that I hate having to dismantle the filter everytime a female drops a batch, which as you know with livebearers happens all the time!

What I have done so far to prevent the accidental filtering of the little fishes is to wrap the filter intake with pantyhose. This seems to work well with my ehiem but my aquaclear seems to struggle. If any amount of debris is on the pantyhose then the outflow reduces from a waterfall to a mere trickling.

I was hoping one of you fine forum members might be able to offer an alternative method so that I may save my filter and my new little friends at the same time!

Thanks

The best stuff I've found is 'tulle'. It's the mesh that tutus and kid's seaside fishing nets are made from. Or a coarse sheet type filter sponge; the ones for pond filters are good and can easily be cut to size/shape.
