Ok so i have a bucket with about 100 fry. Its a rubermaid storage bin the ones with lids and whatnot. It has worked wonderfully. I want to get something bigger for them now as they are starting to grow. IMO tanks are expensive and im looking for an inexpensive alternative to grow them out. Does anyone use anything or could recomend me to some sort of container water tight obviously that may be a good alternative to setting up tanks.

Thanks
Mike

Dunno what the meat markets use in other countries, but ours have these white rectangular plastic baskets they put meat in the freezers with.... Used to hand spawn my goldfish into a saucer and then transfer the eggs into these for hatching and rearing.... Worked like a bomb.... They can stack nicely and do not take up a lot of space.

polystyrene boxes are also good, great for keeping heating costs down! check your fish shop, i know mine throws them away!

These might work because the only space i have in the house is in my basement and when winter comes the heating becomes tremendously expensive. Doing some research but i cant find a great measurement guide. Any idea on what the biggest sized boxes i can get?

Anyone else have any links or pictures so i have an idea of what your referring too?

Nice yeah i have something similar. Mine is not clear is blue and its about the same size cant really tell becuase its just a picture but i think its a bit taller. What kind of filtration would you run on that? I am currently using an Aquaclear 150 i think its now a Aquaclear 30.

Good deal! Thanks for your help! Anything that you know of along the lines of several hundred gallon containers?

soaup - only thing i can think of is water butts but these aren't that good for te job you are after.

Nick - the biggest ank i used one on was a 30l and it did the job perfectley, it contains a sponge, and a tray for activated acrbon, although i bought some wool put that in instead so my water was crystal clear

I did some research on water butts as i have not heard of them before. It doesnt look like there is much in terms of use for fish. Although none the less correct me if im wrong you can hook these things up to your gutter and collect rain water!? Thats quite the nifty invention. Over here in the states.... At least in New York City there is a whole "Green" movement, Im suprised that i have not heard of these before or even seen them marketed. I would consider picking one up for the yard.

Although with that said im looking for something more along the lines of say 100 gallons? With a decent surface area like a kiddie pool but a little taller. Maybe a 5ft diameter circular container, would work perfect IMO.

Thanks again all!

i'm surprised they aren't been produced world wide. swimming pool would be the best option, i wasnt sure if you had to have it go along a wall or not. My mate used one of those huge blue pools to keep some pond fish in while he had a bigger pond built. He managed to get the sturgeons feeding out of his hand.

Sturgeons are beautiful fish man. Your mates a lucky guy to be able to provide for them? How big are they. Yeah i was thinking like a kiddie pool or something would work fine, but filtration in something like that might be a problem. Also the filter you attached the link to. Think its too strong a pull for fry?

it is a while since i have seen them, they were 1.5ft.

you could use a sponge filter, or put a net over the filter intake.
