I had a pretty sad situation with a chinese SunSun tank.

Basically, the tank developed a leak roughly 1 year after I set it up.

The water must have been leaking unknown to me for months. It was coming from the seals of the tank and dripping into the top of the stand (ie the flat base).

My stand had screw holes in the top to connect the stand pieces together. Because the tank was rimmed, this seemed to only increase the amount of water underneath the tank.

Basically, the water was entering the inner wood (behind the veneer) of the stand trough these screw holes. This resulted in one side of the stand looking 'ruffled', and feeling damp.

ObViously concerned, I investigated further which is when I found the above.

The tank stand was literally falling apart because of the water damage and given a little while longer, I feel that the piece of wood would have given way causing the whole tank to collapse.

I was lucky.

It was a 360L tank.

This was a good number of years ago though, so I hope that it was a one off and that the tank seals have been improved. I see they are always changing and upgrading their products so I assume tank QC is now better.

Anyway, hope I didn't scare you. Not even sure if your tank is SunSun. It's just I always feel obliged to mention it.

Filter wise, I found the overhead filter brilliant. Powerful and very easy to clean. As long as it is kept free of debris, it works great. I did supplement with an external too though for piece of mind.

What's the verdict on the filter in this? I'd be considering one if I don't need an additional external to run it...

The hood filters seems ok bit too much noise for me but then again i assume all trickle ones are the same.

As a whole package defo would not have made the purchase if i was able to see the build quality before hand :good:

hmmm... I have a 50Gal (3 ft long) tank sat in a garage atm that I picked up last month, but the whole set up for it would be ~£20 less than the 250L APS one. And the stand would be a cabinet rather than a table etc. Is the build quality really that bad? can you please put up some photos of the good and bad stuff? And as for the noisyness of the filter, is it 'can't-hear-myself-think' noisey, 'Well-i-guess-I-can-turn-the-TV-up' noisey' or 'Don't-get-it-for-your-bedroom' noisey?

Cheers

Bit tricky to get pics as its all in place now, but heres a few, the tank arrived like this btw.

Good points

1. Cheap payed £250 inc del
2. Delivery was good

Bad points

1. Stand arrived scrached
2. metal hood has chips and flaky paint
3. Silicone all over the glass needs to be removed before set up
4. silicone very uneven and missing in some places
5. Heater supplied barly has cable to run out the tank let alone a drip loop
6. I put a very fair review on the website(much nicer then on here) supprise it got filed under B1N

noise wise its the trickle of the water some might find it peacefull but im used to tetratec which are silent. Tv turned up 1 notch in a few days wont notice TBF.

hmmm, I think I may give it a go judging by the pics you have shown. Clearly not brilliant, but deffo wrth the £20 extra over what I have currently. If it is truely awful, I can always exercise my consumer rights and demand a full refund :good:

Will hopefully be ordering it before the end of the week, so should have a secondary review soon.

Can I ask about the delivery, did they give you a day and time to expect the delivery as I work very far away from home so would need a day off to be in...

EDIT: deleted images from quote to make it a bit less imposing :p

you read the whole thread and still want lol? each to their own :good:

Courrier will call you to arrange a day between 9-5

I wouldnt part with my cash for what could be viewed as a second hand item. :D I paid £280 for my 5 footer and it was totally spotless, second hand too!

The quality does look rubbish tbh, but you get what you pay for. If it's only being used as a grow out and not for a dispay tank then i guess all is well.

What is noisy about the filter? The water trickling back into the tank or the motor?

Yeah true....if i payed £600+ for the big un i would return it with a steaming pressie from our great dane :good: :hey:

The noise is made by the spay bars sitting on the over flow boxes...the motors are pretty quite

I just had the spray bar pointin into the media and it was silent on my Aqua One.

I was considering the 4ft one like i told you before, glad someone has made a decent review about the whole package from start to finish. :good:

yeah thats how mine is set up, but can hear the water trickling through each box.

That was the point of the thread so if it helps some avoid the shoddy tank workman ship it served its purpose

TBF, the issues you are having are all aesthetics, and it deffo looks much better than the tank I currently have waiting. As I havent bought the rest of the gear for that tank, this one will work out £20 more all told. I'll agree it isn't great, but I'm on a very tight budget, and this looks far better IMO than my alternative.

Now, if you tell me the filter is crap, the tank leaks and the stand will be blown over, I may change my mind :good:
