All Males Or Mixed, Which Is Best?

Which do you think would make a better tank set up for Threadfin Rainbowfish?

Hello all,

Have a question that I need opinions on.

Currently I have a 90 litre tank with 15 Threadfins.

And I thought I got 5 males and 10 females from LFS to have a good ratio of 2 females to 1 male.......took word of LFS staff......should have known better........nope!

As smaller juveniles I found it difficult to sex the the threadfins as their fins had not grown enough to distinguish genders.

Now I have a much better idea what my stocking is, believe now I have 3 females and 12 males!!

Quite a long way from my ratio of 2 females to 1 male!
Typical!

Am not fussy as to whether they breed or not, can give away or sell any fry if that happens, or even set up another tank.....

Now, as you probably have worked out by now, my question is, is an all males tank better or mixed ratio of 2F:1M best?

Have been trying to set up a poll for these two choices but not sure if worked or not!

Thanks to all in advance

ive seen with livebearers that males that have females seem less agressive to each other rather than no males, but by all means im not very educated  on rainbowfish keeping.

Hmm, thats a gut feeling I had about having a ratio of females to males, that the males might be a bit less aggressive with more females around.

My threadfin males flare quite a lot to each other and chase a little bit sometimes but assumed this to be sorting out a hierarchy or pecking order since they are still juveniles and pretty new to my tank, only about a month so far!

Want to sort this before the males get to be adults and might be more tricky to introduce new females in main tank.

Still 50-50 though which would be most beneficial.

Hopefully more people will put in their penny's worth of thoughts soon!

Still not really decided on which would work out better.

Want to the swaps/returns to LFS this weekend before the guys grow a bit more.

Really would appreciate more input and votes.

Ta!

Decided to have mixed.

5 Males to 10 females. Just so that can have a little more natural behaviour and a bit less aggression really as I want a peaceful tank.
