Lately, I've noticed lots of albino fish at my lfs...so I got to thinking (uh-oh, I know). I have a twenty gallon long tank that is currently empty. I've seen albino paradise gouramis, albino glowlights, albino cherry barbs, albino corys, albino dojo loaches, and albino kribs. What would be a nice combination of these fish?

For the set up, I'm thinking about a black substrate (sand, preferrably), and dark green plants (preferrably real ones). What are some dark plants that could do well with moderate lighting?

I like that idea :) I'd like to try that out someday myself...

I'd get one paradise gourami (females are less aggressive but it's up to you), 6 glow-lights, a pair of cherry barbs and 4 cories.

The loaches I'd skip cause the cories will be much more fun to watch and the kribs would be risky due to aggression if they were to breed. I think that a tank with lots of small, active fish and one slightly larger (the gourami) with a good balance at all levels would be better than having the loaches, cories and kribs (all bottom dwellers) and then you wouldn't have room for anything else realy anyway :p

i disagree about the loaches, loaches are often much more active than corys, especially in a small group.

The tank could look ace if you use darker plants and substrate :)

how about a white fin albino shark aswell and a albino ancistus then your pretty much done.

densa elodea is quite a dark green and grows easilys.

the broad leafed plant that you can attach to rocks and wood is dark aswell. can't remeber the name but kind of looks like plastic.Covering things in java moss will help make things darker aswell.

Well, I have a krib in one of my other tanks, and I wouldn't consider her aggressive...a little snot, yes, but not aggressive. If I just got one, or just two females, wouldn't that work?

Wouldn't the shark get too big for a 20 gallon?

Yes you could get just one. I'd think the shark might be a little too agressive but they only get to about 6" so it wouldn't be too large.

you could do albino/clear invertebrates and stuff too.

Ghost shrimp, albino frogs, etc.

great idea.

I've got an albino ruby shark, he's about 2". Very territorial, but overall a nice guy. Put them with bigger fish and he'll be kept in place. He also seems to love my cory.

I love the little ADF, but aren't the albino ones ACF? And they would eventually eat the glowlights and cherry barbs, right?

Albino ruby shark, huh? Would he get big enough to eat the barbs or glowlights?

To tell you the truth, that would give me nightmares :p Interesting idea though. It'd be neat if the whole tank was really dark, so the fish really stood out.

DB :fish:
haha, yeah

Man... that's a cool idea.... now I'm tempted to go out and get a new 20 gallon. :D

Not sure about surface area as an issue, but I saw an albino african butterfly fish in a non-local fish store.... didn't even know they existed.

I wanted to do an all albino tank once but my girlfriend was against it. The albinos were too creepy to her or something.
