Albimarginata Spawned!

Sorry to hear about that I was hoping that wouldnt happen . Have you got your money yet?? Let me know so I wont be worried about paying you.

Not yet, but I'm sure it'll be here any day now

synirr so sorry for your loss that really stinks.

i know how you feel tho i lost a pair of simplex for the same reason. first they were perfectly fine and then the male stopped eating. then the female stopped eating and they would not touch any food no matter what i tried. then they died. i have no idea why they do it but it stinks.

Oh man, that sucks. I guess this might be something relatively common? Makes me glad I separated the female from him, just incase... she and the other male are still doing fabulous, and she ate like a piggy for me today

I just haven't had much luck with wilds lately. My imbellis male passed last night as well, but I'm sure it's completely unrelated as he never came into contact with anything that had touched the albimarginata tank. He wasn't ill or anything, so I assume it's just natural causes. He was wild-caught, so I have no way of knowing how old he was :dunno:
The female is actually more active and less shy now that he's gone, so I think I'll just let her have the tank to herself. She's an independent woman (and rather butch at that *lol*)

I'm sorry for your loss Synirr. I wonder if something was lodged in his throat? Or perhaps he felt uncomfortable being the 3rd wheel? This is very puzzling. At least you still have a pair and maybe something positive can come from that.

This makes me sad I was awaiting to see the babies and now this. I am heartbroken and he wasnt even mine. I am sorry once again about your fish Synirr

I think they're rather moody, myself. With my first pair of kapuas I felt like I gave them everything they could ever want (hello?! four foot tank to theirselves) and they didn't do well after a couple of months of doing great, lost the female first then the male.No signs of illness, just stopped eating. Sorrell had lost her female as well so she sent her boy to me (last winter) and I kept him in a 2.5 for months and months and he did great, although life was boring for him. I've recently moved him into a large tub with a pair of kapuas from Victorea E. He seems to be doing well but I haven't even seen him in days.
Moving on to my current wilds- I bought that pair of Simplex in June, the male did wonderfully as did the female. I moved them to a spawn tank and the male went into a "shell" that I just can't get him to snap out of ever since. He refuses to eat and just....sits there in his seven gallon. *sigh* The female is a happy camper though.
Aaaaand, a couple months ago I came in to find my smaragdina father dead as a doornail in full color and display, just laying there, he was fine the night before. It was two days after I moved him into his seven gallon from a 2.5 .
None of this is useful information, just my experiences with their touchyness. It seems there's a pattern with moving them -_-

Hmm, I guess they're just sensitive to certain conditions or something. I've found that mine do better with some dither fish... My imbellis were out in the open much more when I added my WCMMS and cory to their tank to make room for the albimarginata, and now I have my two feeder guppies (the ones that hitchiked in with some ghost shrimp as fry) in with the albis, and the female actually swims around with them like they're best buds!

The male swallowed his brood yesterday (not surprising, he's a first time dad and the tank was in a high-traffic area) so the pair have been moved back to their 10 gallon home, permanently. I did a huge water change and whatnot to make it as safe as possible for them after the other male died, and they're eating and doing well. I'll remove the guppies in a few weeks to give them the chance to spawn again, but until then I just hope they continue to do well :). I was anxious to move them back to the 10 gallon so they'd have more room... and so my poor dwarf puffers could have some light!! The light hood in their tank shorted out a few weeks ago, so I moved them to the 5 gallon the albis vacated.
