i ahve a 42lt tank and have been bought a 12inch air curtain hose, will this be too much for the fish or will it be ok?

You'll just have to try it and see if you think they are distressed by it. You can observe for a day with it off and a day with it on etc. and compare the movements and apparent stress of your fish. It could easily be too much for a tank like that is my guess.

~~waterdrop~~
(great for fishless cycling though!)

I'm thinking that you can regulate how many bubbles there ae coming from the curtain by using a valve on the line to it and a valve to bleed off any air you don't need. By regulating the air flow, you can probably make it a pleasant experience rather than cause stress for the fish.

I used a 12" on my 40 ltr for a while. To use a 12" properly you need a poweful-ish pump, which i had but full on, it gave bubbles far too powerful for the tank and instead of it being a pleasant curtain, it was like a disco in there. So I turned the valve on my line down so it didn't punp out full blast. This then meant that the bubbles didn't get along the 12 inches properly and defeated the object.

I don't think my fish really cared either way, but I just found it difficult to create the look I wanted in that size of tank.

thanks for the advice have tried it fish dont seem bothered! i did add a valve and got it to a nice curtain stage (no disco enviroments! althought the tetra would look cool at a disco!)
