Hi all, just a minute ago, i went to test my air pump and air stones. I connected each end of the piping to the air stone and the pump, i put the two air stones (connected to the pump) into a tub of water. So i turned the pump on and nothing happened........... no bubbles, anything!!!!!!!! I am quite worried. Don't know whether the pump is too weak, or whether its some other problem??

I have two 30cm air stones connected to a marina 200 air pump. It claims it's suitable for up to 150 litres of tank, and mine is 125. Any advice would be very gratefully recieved!!! Thanks, Alex :good:

was the filter making a noise, or if you touched it was it vibrating?

Are you using a check valve or gang valve? If so the check valve might be in backwards (I made the same mistake on mine) or the gang valve might be turned all the way down, try turning the knob. if you aren't using either of these then I'm not sure why it isn't working other than maybe you got a faulty air pump.

Does it work if you just use one air stone?

I had a similar problem where my pump would just not power two air stones. I guess it was too weak? But it's rated for 60gals so I can't imagine it's too weak to handle two little stones!! I don't know.

Did you soak the airstones for over an hour? Says to do that on the box for most of em. I had a bar one that was not putting out much after soaking so mI slammed it with the palm of my hand and rubbed on the stone under water a bit and the bubbles eventually got stronger.

thanks for all of the advice, i havn't soaked the aistone, that might be the problem then!! :D If not, i will presume that my air pump is too weak, because when i turn it on, it vibrates and makes a noise, but just no bubbles!!! If it turns out that its the strength of the pump, i will just get a more powerful one!! Thanks again :good:

A quick way to troubleshoot the stones vs. the air pump is to try blowing through the air tubing. It is far easier to blow bubbles in a tank than it is to blow up a balloon so you will know in a big hurry.

I'd guess its down to pump flow. 200lph is enough for one 20inch(9cm) air stone.

incidentally the tank capacity given, for air pumps, is not for the size of tank the pump will provide bubbles for, rather the tank size the pump can drive, when used as part of your filtration. when used as deccor or for surface disruption, tanks size is not relevant to pump power.

ooooooooooh, i soaked the stones, put them in my new tank, turned the pump on and they're working!!! lol. Thanks 4 all ur replies :good:
