Not a clue what happened here, but I turned on the light to feed everybody in my 55g, and I see one of the longfin black skirts with his eye hanging out and his mouth all beat up. I fear it might be the flying fox. My QT tank is occupied with cory fry so I have nowhere to put him. Can you tell by these lousy photos (I could have taken 100 perfectly clear photos of his other side) if it appears to be an injury or some sort of illness? I honestly don't have time to take tests right now as I'm headed out the door, but I just tested a few days ago and they're consistently at 0. Thanks for taking the time to look:

Hope hell be okay As for the pictures, i dont think theyll be much use but thats typical of fish impossible to take a picture of.

Have a read up about popeye. Although trauma is on the list, as you rightly point out.

Thanks ... had a read on pop eye, and this isn't it. It isn't just bulging, it's hanging out, and his mouth is injured, plus his gills seem to be sticking out. Here's a video which is a bit dark, but you can se the eye and mouth.

Can he/the other fish in the tank handle aquarium salt?  If so, I'd recommend putting in a dose.  It is proven to reduce fish stress and might aid his convalescence.

I've noticed today that what I thought was her eyeball hanging out may actually be a flap of skin or some scales. When she swims away from me I can see that her eye looks to be intact. It really looks like someone took her behind the driftwood and just beat the crap out of her. Her lips are swollen and gills are sticking out a bit, plus that horrid looking eye. Guess I'll just keep an eye (no pun intended) on her for a few days.

Probably best for the LFBST. S/he was in really bad shape. I still wish I knew what happened, though.
