Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could help me with the age of my plec?
I got him/her in October 2019 and he/she was already roughly the same size as now. Iā€™m attaching a good picture with fins on show

I have another one that Iā€™ve had since it was tiny and Iā€™m pretty sure that the smaller one is roughly 3 years old. Heā€™s a fair bit smaller though.

no way of telling how old an adult fish is unless you had it from a baby

Ah, ok. Thank you anyway. I thought that might be the case. I have Bristlenose plecs that weā€™re bred by my husband and will be 2 on November 5th. They are still tiny. I was told that Godzilla, the big plec, was a common plec but having done some reading Iā€™m thinking he/she may be one of the bigger species. I think one is a leopard plec and the other is a king snowflake. You wouldnā€™t happen to know if my plec is either of those would you?
Thanks

I don't think there is a way to tell age unless you've had them since birth and I can't help you with what species it is... Sorry

Really stunning specimen though! You should try to enter him/her into one of our FOTM contests here!

I have a couple of zebra plecos I know are 20+ years old. I keep the Hypancistrus from the Rio Xingu- zebra, L236, l173. They can live a long time. And they may still spawn at that age. I got some of them in the spring of 2006 and they ranged in age from about 3 to 5 years at that tinme.
