My Corn Snake

Still learning the location and format of everything being new to the forum, and was pleased to find this section. So this is my corn snake, Nagini (some will get it). I purchased her 8 years ago at 13 inches long, which is about average hatching size. Unfortunately I don't know her exact hatchdate since I got her from Petsmart. Some have had issues with that. Anyway, I love her, she's about 8 years old and roughly 4.5 feet long now. She currently lives in a 40 gallon breeder, but I hope to upgrade her to a 75 or larger.

I like snakes quite a bit, yours looks lovely, what are you feeding her? I used to keep a mexican milk snake but we moved to a very isolated location and could no longer source frozen mice so in a beautiful reversal my son ended up keeping her.

She gets a small rat every 2-3 weeks.
Milk snakes are pretty too. I'd like to one day get my hands on a more vividly colored scaly. Maybe like a California king or red sided garter. Just a little limited on space now though.

She is a beauty! I have two small Kenyan sand boas, well small compared to other boas, lol. My female is around 18' long and almost 3" at her widest (chunky). My male is 12" and maybe 2" diameter.

I've noticed my corn in not really as chunky as other ones I've seen. I mean she's not unhealthy or underweight, but I sometimes wonder why. Honestly I'm not even 100% sure she is indeed female. I just looked at the few external clues that are not always reliable and made a guess. It doesn't technically matter since she's a pet not intended for breeding, and I don't trust myself to try probing for no real reason. I do sometimes wonder if she might actually be a he though since females are often chunkier in the snake world.

These boas have their eyes positioned more to the top of their head since they usually bury themselves in the substrate and ambush prey as it appears.

Super chunky!

My male is always hiding. Here is a (poor) comparison based on their sheds.

She is always watching for food, he listens for vibration then comes out when the coast is clear, lol .

Snakes absolutely freak me out ! Every time I see one I jump and scream like crazy . Something just not right about them . Captain Kirk even noted that about the Gorn when he said that we humans have a basic revulsion to reptiles .

She's beautiful! Those are really interesting colors and patterns. Not anything like the snakes I'm familiar with.

That's understandable. My mother is terrified of mine. Lol. She'll look at her through the glass and just say something like, "She sure is getting big." I myself am super creeped out by spiders and people keep those as pets too.

Spiders I don’t mind if they’re outside and I see them first from a distance but Tarantulas give me the heebie-jeebies !

Any spider with fur or that is larger than a quarter creep me out.

I don't keep snakes any more, but used to keep various corns, a large carpet, Irian Jaya carpets, a number of Amazon Tree boa's and a Wester Hognose called Horace.

I wonder if you can tell what sort of snake I am holding?

The last one is my old dog.
