I just got back in from the AGA convention. Saw some nice tanks there!

The Irish lad came 15th in the ADA (Japanese.)

This is the AGA (American.)

The same Irish lad came 1st in both the small and medium tanks in this one!

I just notice people comment on the tanks. Didn't notice this from the previous years. Oops.

Yeah, the Judges comments are generally quite true, if sometimes a bit critical - but in a good way...

UKAPS's very own George Farmer (former planted section moderator here on TFF) was judging this year too!

i always love looking at those tanks...
but what i always wonder...how do they get the tanks to look like that? and i dont mean the plants, i mean the tanks themselves?

it seems that all contestants have
1) no background
2) absolutely no equipment visible, and yet
3) water ripples at the surface

is that like part of the rules? how do they make it so the water is crystal clear and yet there's no equipment? i'm assuming they take out the equipment before taking the picture? then how long do they wait before everything settles to look as perfect as it does in the pictures?!

1) This helps to create more depth, a plain backing is used (usually attached to wall behind) the a light source is used.

2) They take it out before the shoot But they usually use glass equipment to minimise the look when it is all in.

3) use a hairdryer over the tank,

It has some pics about the whole photography process etc. They also overfilter (10-20x turnover)
