Advice Please

I have a 4ft tank been up and running a year and has an external filter.I do 40-50% waterchanges weekly. the past 2weeks the sand has algae on it.there is no algae anywhere else on the tank exccept a few tiny bits on the bogwood.the algae just sits there like a green dusting,it goes when i clean the tank out but is back the following day.what can I do?

When you do your weekly water changes, do you also use a gravel vac?

How long do you have your lights on for per day?

make sure its completely out of sunlight

I agree. Exposure to natural sunlight is heaven for algea to grow in a tank. If it is in natural sunlight, you could take a black garbage bag, and tape it to the back of the tank, that should help with algea a bit.

the lights are on for about 10hours a day.there is no direct sunlight on a tank an no algae on the glass just on the sand.

I use a syphon tube and hover along the surface.the only I added to the tank around the same time was some fresh live plants could it be anything to do with that?

The plants would not/should not do anything like that.
