Hi guys,
I'm after some advise regardingy new 4ft setup.
I've had it for about three weeks but due to being away for three weeks, I didn't set the tank up.
I did get a bit ahead of myself and placed the substrate and bogwood (no water) in preparation for my return.
Seems it was a bit of a mistake as the bogwood has a tremendous amount of fungi growing, and the substrate has developed a bit of an unhealthy smell.
So today I have soaked the bogwood in boiling water, and I've flushed the substrate a few times to give it a bit of a clean.
So with that in hand, the question relates to my cycling.
I may (or may not) be moving in two months time, but I was thinking of starting the fish less cycle now, seeded by my current filter, to get the filter ready for the move. That way on the moving day, time out of water will only be a few hours. The filter will be cycled, meaning I watch for a mini cycle and then hopefully move my stock over a few days later. Assuming correct water parameters of course. What do you guys think?
The only thing I'm thinking is that I wanted to plant the day of filling. However if I do move, I'd be emptying out the tank and it'll give me the opportunity to plant anyway. And if I don't move, I can do a big water change, plant with 25% water with ease, and it'll be good to go.
