Adding Sand To A New Tank

I have recently read the Practical fishkeeping magazine and they have added play sand to there tank, i want to do the same but they dont say which sand they used and how they went about adding it, they did say that they didnt need to clean it as it was safe for children, also what plants do well in sand ?

Many people use childrens play sand, found (in the UK) in argos, toysrus etc. You will need to wash it, just to get the dust off and wash well or it will cloud the tank initially.

if your in the UK then argos play sand is very cheap and looks very good and doesnt need much washing before putting it in the tank, i have this in about 5 of my tanks. i think its about £3-4 for a huge 25kg bag

yea im in the UK and i shall do this, do you know what plants do well in sand or do most hardy plants do well, i was wanting, vallis, cobumba and a few others, also what plants grow well on drift wood , not to bothered about java moss or christmas moss, i know java fern does well but just looking for ideas
