hatfield hey, not far at all. which LFS do you use? Aquatic Warehouse in Cole Green (on the A414 roundabout, left to WGC, straight over to hertford, right to cole green) is good, i get most of my stuff from there. not great for plants though.
let me know if you need any advise (haven't got any local fishkeeping friends and my mates are getting fed up of me talking about fish!!)
Thanks very much, I probably will need some advice soon. I am thinking of ordering some Interpet T5's today.
I have shopped at the Aquatics Warehouse a lot. I bought my Rekord 70 and nearly all my hardware from there when I first setup, not bought any fish there because they don't usually look the best IMO. Most of my fish are from Notcutts Garden Centre on Hatfield Rd, on the way to St Albans.
I've started going to Enfield (Wildwoods, etc) too, since I discovered they existed.
how funny, i bought my 12G from aquatic warehouse, 40G from wildwoods.
as to quality of fish, wildwoods are okay but even better is the Japanese Koi Company near bedford. that is by far the best fish shop around here and well worth a visit. the place is about the same size as wildwoods but more marine and tropical as opposed to pond. their plants are always in good condition as well. (dont bother on the weekend though it's rammed and no time for advice)

whilst your next in enfield take a look in maidenhead aquatics, it's in wyvale garden centre. come out of wildwoods turn right and it's 1/2 mile on the right.
NEVER even enter the carpark of waterworld though (on the A10 turning to wildwoods) worst LFS in the world ran by those thugs in hoodies that are all over the press at the moment.
seriously though theyre awefull.
i dont have any experience with T5's so cant really advise although they are obviously better (and twice the price) of T8's. are you sure you need them?
I've been to maidenhead. I bought my rubbernose from there. They seemed pretty good. I think I may have been to waterworld before, when I first found the area (Wildwoods open day weekend a while ago) I went to all the ones I could find, and there was a couple I thought 'never again!' Can't remember exactly which ones though.
The Interpet T5's aren't actually too bad on price and I'm limited on hood space so I thought I'd give them a go.
i recognised Vixen from her profile pics. she introduced me to paul (the wolf).
thinking about it t5's are probably better for your tank as you will have about the same size hood as me (in the rekord 60) and 2x 15W t8's are all you can fit in. that not quite enough for a great tank so yes with the T5's the quality will only be limited to your skill rather than the equipment holding you back. definatly the right way to do things rather than replacing everything later on (as i have).
I believe they are exactly the same hoods (Rekord 60 and 70) as it is only the depth that is greater on a 70.
I'm planning on ordering a 24watt PC and running it together with the standard 15w to see how things go. If I need more in the future then I can replace the standard as well, and if I find it is too much (I don't want to have to use CO2 to start with) then I can leave the standard one off. Once all the experimenting is over I might build a new hood.
