Ok so calling all aquasoil users here, is ADA aqua soil supposed to cloud the water this much?
I'm hoping it will eventually all settle down...but even then how am i supposed to 'scape' it at all if it clouds up the whole tank every time i touch it? :shout:
Right now i've put some filter wool in the filter to try clear the water.
Any help or input is appreciated  :)

In answer to your question ... No it's not supposed to do that.

In the pic the substrate looks very light in colour.
I'm currently using ADA Aquasoil in a 60cm tank(with Powersand) and 120cm tank (without Powersand) ...... Never seen it do that before !

I've heard of people having some clouding, but never anything to that extent. I'd be very tempted to empty the tank and refill, very slowly with clean water.

Are you using anything as a sub-layer ?
Any other additives in the substrate ?
What sort of aquasoil is it ..... normal or powder ?

I have emptied the tank and re-filled it 3 times :( .
It could be because i kinda half-washed it :look: . I put about half of it in a bucket and filled the bucket with water and poured all the cloudy stuff away. I did that in a bucket only once, then i realized you weren't supposed to wash it, so i stopped and just put it in the tank. Then this happened :( .
I don't think that could have done it, because its the equivalent of putting it in a tank for the first time then filling with water, and then doing a water change right after.
Theres no sub-layer or any other additives and its normal aquasoil malaya.

I think im going to turn the filter off and see if it settles :/ .

for that you should put another layer the aquasoil should be on the bottom and leak the water in slow

But the aquasoil isn't meant to have a layer above it  . Also it wouldn't look very nice and be harder to scape with something on top of it.
It hasn't settled down over night, so I'll do yet another water change, see if it makes a difference.

It is this the granulated or power ADA AS? I've only heard of people using the granulated stuff, without any clouding. I would expect power AS to do this.

Oh right, not so good. Give it time is should clear. This happens a lot with flourite and laterite, both these clear in a day or two. Run the filter to help remove it as well.

Ok thanks :) . I'll turn the filter back on. I wont be able to do anything with it until Sunday, so hopefully it will have cleared by then -_- .

I'll keep my fingers crossed ;)

Dont forget that planting plants will probably stir it up again, so dont go getting fish before you've got the plants sorted.

I would empty as water much as possible, tip the tank to get more out. So you are left with wet substrate only.

Then plant while the substrate is wet. Use a spray bottle/mister to keep the plants moist while planting. Take some time to plan your layout so to avoid having to re-plant.

Then very, very slowly add new water. Pour it as near to the substrate as possible to prevent agitating it. Use a small upturned plate or similar to disperse the flow.

Thanks George, i've not even ordered the plants yet, but i'll be doing that during the weekend :D . Theres still alot i have to sort out, i need to make a trip down to b&q for some sand and stone too.
Im away from home right now but hopefully the tank will be clearing as i type  .

Thanks for the info.

I'm waiting for some ADA Aquasoil Malaya from Aqua Essentials so will be careful when filling the tank.
