A whole new tank

I have been keeping tropical fish for a year now (I must be an expert) a friend was moving and having zero experience with tropical fish I accepted his 55 gallon tank with several adopted fish. Slowly I have made a happy community with live plants and a variety of fish (Anglefish, Blue Gorami, 6 Tiger barbs, 7 Neon Tetras, 2 freshwater flounders, and 2 yo yo loaches to eat the damn snails that came with my last plant purchase) now I am ready to start a new 30 gallon tank for my son's new bedroom. I have the tank, heater, and filter, but I am looking for cool ideas for a 30 gallon tropical tank.

What I would do to help choose is get a long list of your / your sons favourite fish. Then find the GH/ KH/ PH of your water source and arm yourself with a species guide.
- cross off any that don't thrive in your water,
- cross off any that are hard to keep,
- if you want a community, cross off any that are species only
-cross off any that need a bigger tank that you have,
- check how many fish are needed for a happy shoal, and how much space you need for territorial fish
- calculate which fish / fish shoals could 'fit' your capacity
- check if they are compatible with each other
- see whats left and post it here for the experts on here to advise.
