Have a spare 10 gallon tank with no fish, in great condition. It will save $ in the long run. It's a great place to isolate/quarrantine new arrivals:and treat them if they ARE sick. It's a great recovery room for a fish who hasn't been feeding too well, or has been bullied or, is just not up to snuff. Give 'em a rest, a good feed, and shoot 'em back. Let that female breeder recover in peace. And it's a life saver in all kinds of unexpected emergencies. Keep it cheap, simple, and resist temptation.

Q-tanks are a must when getting new fish. You never know what they could bring into the tank. Such a shame to wipe out a whole tank full of fish because you introduce new fish with white spot into the tank. As mentioned, it's a great investment. Even a 5 gallon will work for most community fish (that's what I use although I do have a spare 10 gallon).

And as mentioned, it's cheap. The last time I checked, Petsmart had 10 gallon glass tanks for $9.99, a 50 watt heater for about $17 and a HOB Whisper 10 filter for $11. That's less than $40 for a lot of peace of mind.
