I had my biggest compliment to date earlier.

My nine year-old daughter, Emily, had a few friends around today. I was just finishing my weekly water change etc. and they were taking a great interest, Emily even explained how to calculate the CO2 level to them and tested my pH and KH. They've all just done photosynthesis at school so the pearling plants were a great demonstration for them. Anyway, her best friend, Megan, says to me, "George, your tank looks like something you see in nature. I wish our goldfish had a tank like that."

Needless to say it was a proud moment - after all, kids tell it like it is.

Yeah, it's a genetic thing. Children only know how to lie when it's about themself and something they shouldn't have done. Even then they aren't very good at it. Children speak the truth. (And often I find, they're wiser than adults!)

Good job GF. =)

Thats amazing! I love it when non fish people are in awe of my tank. And kudos to your daughter for knowing all that... I'm sure it doesn't hurt that she has you for a dad.

That's a very proud momend indeed !
Does your daughter have her own tank yet ? or does she realise how much work is involved and steers well clear ? :)

Thas fantastic!!!! I actually like the bit about your daughter explaining the CO2 and KH stuff more than the compliment. BF is 32 and he still doesn't get it

Yeah I agree, I love it when kids get all nerdy on you. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

As for the natural compliment, that's awesome because that is exactly what your going for, gf. So kudos!

Thanks everyone.

Emily has expressed an interest in wanting a small (18x12x12") planted tank with Amano shrimp and a small shoal of tetra/rasbora.

Obviously I'll do most of the setting up. I was thinking 24W T5 PC Daylight lighting, Nutrafin CO2 (I have a unit spare), black quartz and laterite (also have spare) substrate and simply fertilising with old water from my 34G. Planted with moss covered bogwood and easy stem plants. I already have the empty tank so I just need the lighting, filter and livestock.

I'll keep you posted if and when I eventually get the time to start it. My wife keeps putting it off (unfortunately she doesn't share my passion!)
