A Planted Tank For Non-community Fish

I've only ever had a community tank and I fancy having a go at some non-community fish, maybe some malawi cichlids. However, from my experience they just continually pull up the plants.

What other fish might be suitable for a planted tank?

If tank size allows, why not try one of the South American Dwarf Cichlids?

I have just set up a trio in a 20 Gallon, lots of plants/bogwood and caves.

There are some lovely fish to chose from.

Wouldn't that make it a community tank?

Perhaps look at snakeheads

So ther than the Dwarf South American Cichlids, there isn't much choice?

try posting in the new world cichlid section im dont know much about bigger cichlides but i think most of them would uproot your plants

Keyhole cichlids don't touch plants. Blue acara don't really eat plants. Thorichthys and archocentrus genera would also be good bets. This would depend on which plants you have though (rhizome plants like anubias and java fern are generally safer than others) and if the fish just really doesn't like it's decor and decides to change things up or not.
