Hi everyone..

My name is Julie and I am Brian’s wife.

He has just bought this large tank ( I think he said it was 250 by 70 by 70) not sure what that means but it has replaced out dining room and it is looking so beautiful inside.

I have a question. I want to buy a gift for him as it is coming up to an anniversary. I would like to buy something for the tank and he has been talking about a thing called a zebra pleki, and I have seen the pictures of it and I think it looks so sweet how ever he has also been talking about this testing kit.

He wrote down a JBL test lab with 10 tests.

No I would like to get him this as I think it might be a bit mean to get the fish as he said the tank needs something called a cycle.. I am trying to learn this fishy stuff because I think it is cool for him and me to work together on it.

I don’t know this cycle is but I have found reference to the testlab and I know where I can get one from.
But my question is. Is it good, will it do all the tests he needs?

Thanks for any help.

you cant get a cycle its somthing you do for the filter (see pinned topics) i think you mean a zebra pleco they are super rare and hard to get a hold of (and i mean hard) many people who breed them will only send them to breeders and breeders are the onmly place you can get them because they will not import any more from the wild i dont know about the test lab but it seems to have all the basic tests you need

If it is one of those liquid testers with bottles of the chemicals you need to test for the different water stats then they are ususally alright. Don't go for a test kit with dip sticks, they are no where near as accurate.

You can get a whole range of test kits from most lfs's, the tetra one is a bargain and does all you usuals, like ph, ammonia, nitrate, and nitrite.

As for the catfish, I'm unsure.

As for zebra plecos they can be got hold of if you want to pay for them a few fish shops at cruise hill can get them for you but your talking around £400 this is because they are now illegal to be caught in the wild so the only way you can get them is through breeders who charge silly prices although with in the next couple of years they will be quiet common again and you should get one for around £50.

thank you everyone. I will go for the Test kit as i think it is the safest. as i dont want to hurt the fish by doing some thing wrong.
I am going to learn from brian and his friend in holland who built the tank for us.

there is also a big fish place near to us and i will see if i can get a money voucher for him to get some thing....

I found his gift yesterday by accident and i am over the moon.... :) he is taking me to dominican republic :hyper:.
then we are booked on a cruze from there back to england...

I have to remember to hide this post in his history... :) :hey: :hey:

thanks Julie
